Sustainability
AT TWO CAPES LOOKOUT we are dedicated to environmental stewardship from a holistic perspective, ensuring our efforts benefit both the environment and the community.
Here are some of the key initiatives we have implemented and are continuing to implement:
Minimizing Development Impact: By utilizing existing logging roads and creating small-footprint tent and cabin sites, we are ensuring that the natural landscape remains as undisturbed as possible.
Local Materials: Whenever possible, we prioritize the use of local materials to reduce transportation emissions and support regional businesses. From construction to furnishings, we choose materials that have minimal environmental impact.
Preserving Coastal Forests: We are committed to preserving 40 acres of coastal forest, leaving this natural beauty untouched and free from development. This forest serves as an important habitat for local wildlife and helps maintain the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
Protecting Wetlands: Nearly 2 acres of wetlands are preserved in their natural state, helping to protect important water filtration systems and providing critical habitat for local species.
Reusing and Repurposing: We preserved most of the trees on-site and reused three large Sitka spruce that had to be cut to create our indoor and outdoor furniture. This approach reduces waste and gives new life to the trees that were removed for the project.
Native Planting: As part of our ongoing environmental efforts, we planted millions of native seeds to restore the area's natural vegetation and ensure biodiversity.
Invasive Species Management: When we acquired the property, invasive Himalayan blackberries were overtaking the wetlands and forest areas. We’ve been actively fighting these invasive species to allow native plants and wildlife to thrive.
Sustainable Architecture: We embrace eco-friendly design by utilizing prefab geodesic domes and cabins that have minimal environmental impact. These structures are energy-efficient.
Electric Vehicles: To further reduce our carbon footprint, we use electric vehicles for housekeeping, maintenance, and guest transportation. This move away from traditional gas-powered vehicles helps keep air and noise pollution at a minimum.
Restricting Traffic: To protect the land and maintain the peaceful, natural atmosphere, we restrict vehicle traffic on-site, allowing guests to experience the beauty of the area on foot.
Our dedication to sustainability also extends to the products we offer our guests.
Studio Campo crafted beautiful benches for our community fire pits, dome and cabin nightstands, and bollard lights, from three large Sitka spruce trees that had to be cut.
Loll, whose outdoor furniture is made from ultra-durable, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), exemplifies sustainability by using recycled materials—primarily sourced from discarded milk jugs. Their designs are built to withstand the elements.
We partner with DANI Naturals, which produces all-natural, vegan, sulfate-free bath and body products.
We also use Fox Fold’s waste-reducing, bamboo-based tissue solutions.
