Frequently Asked Questions

Is there Wi-Fi available on the property?

Absolutely! We offer complimentary Wi-Fi for all guests during their stay. However, please note that cell service is limited to non-existent—perfect for unplugging and enjoying the serenity of nature.

Can I work from Two Capes?

Of course!  All of our accommodations have WIFI access and the Domes even have a desk area that would be perfect for getting some work done while enjoying the ocean and forest views!  What better place to enable that creative thinking than by being nestled in the coastal forest with views of the Great Pacific!

How does parking and transportation work at Two Capes Lookout?

When you come to Two Capes you are in for a touch of luxury with a taste of adventure.

Our Mirror Cabins & Accessible Domes on the South Cape have dedicated parking near their accommodations.

The ocean and forest view Domes on the North Cape of the property are only reachable on foot or by being ferried up the hill by our wonderful staff in our electric passenger carts.  This creates a peaceful and intimate stay for our guests and adds a little adventure to the Glamping experience.  Guests staying in the North Cape will park in the main parking area after checking in.

What if we don’t want to walk back to our car?

If you would like to be picked up and ferried back to your vehicle our staff will be happy to accommodate you while the check in dome is open, currently 9am to 9pm.  There could be a short wait time if others are checking in or staff is already busy with another guest.

How do I get to my unit after hours?

After hours (our check in dome closes at 9pm) guests will need to walk to their units.  Please plan ahead and utilize one of our Self-Service Wagons.

Exercise Notice

Be prepared for a bit of exercise. Most of our domes require a short uphill walk along hilly gravel paths that have path lighting.  Please be prepared with a flashlight (we also have one for you in your dome) or a phone light as the lights at Two Capes are purposely low and night sky friendly, in order to enable incredible star gazing when the sky is clear.

Scenic Views: Nearly all of our domes offer stunning ocean views, with the exception of one featuring a serene forest view. The effort to reach your dome is rewarded with breathtaking scenery and a unique sense of tranquility.

Are campfires allowed?

We have two community fire areas where guests can congregate by a crackling wood fire and enjoy the views and meet other guests.  The benches at the fire pits were crafted from upcycled Sitka spruce trees from the property.

All cabins and domes will have their own propane fire pit on the deck/patio. Wood campfires must remain in designated community fire pit areas only. No fires or candles are permitted in or around cabins, domes, or decks outside of the provided propane fire pits.

How do we get to the beach?

The walk to the beach from Two Capes Lookout is a short 5 to 10 minutes depending on your dome or cabin location. The walk through Two Capes Lookout is stunning, winding through serene natural landscapes and lush coastal scenery.  It's a peaceful journey that makes the effort truly worthwhile. Please note that you’ll need to cross Sand Lake Road, so exercise caution and stay mindful of traffic when crossing.

Additional Beach Access Options:
Two Capes Lookout is close to some amazing outdoor beach and forest experiences. There are too many options to list them all so here are the closest and some of our favorites in the area.

  • Tierra Del Mar:  A 1 minute drive south from Two Capes there is a beach access area where you can drive, park, and picnic on the beach.  Make sure to drive on the designated section of the beach to the south.  Please ensure your vehicle is capable of driving on the beach prior to accessing it.  There is some area to park along Sand Lake road near the entrance.

  • Pacific City:  A 5 minute drive puts you at the center of one of the most beautiful beaches in the Northwest.  Enjoy the beautiful views of the Haystack rock called Chief Kiawanda and the Kiwanda state park.  The state park and the amazing tall sand dune has a trail to the end of the dune with absolutely breathtaking views.  This is also a great area for tide pools at low tide so talk to our staff about the timing of the tides to get some of the best up close and personal views of starfish and anemones.

  • Bob Straub State Park:  At the south end of Pacific City is an amazing state park with quick easy beach access, bathrooms, and trails to the end of the spit where the Nestucca river meets the great Pacific ocean.  The trails wind through beautiful coastal forest and along the beach.

  • Sitka Sedge State Park:  A 5 minute drive to the north is one of the newest state parks, Sitka Sedge.  This state park has trails throughout a sandy coastal forest great for adults and kids to enjoy.  The trail crosses the Sitka sedge that borders sand lake.  Sand lake is a tidal estuary with lots of birds and marine life.

  • Whalen Island:  A few minutes north of Sitka Sedge is a county park called Whalen Island.  This island has a day use area and a loop trail through many different coastal landscapes and forests.  You can access the tidal beach areas easily and this trail is great for people of all ages and children.  If you are looking for a place to swim this is one of the best locations as the tidal water gets warmed by the sun.  This is also a great location to kayak or paddle board at high tide.

  • Cape Lookout State Park:  A 10 to 15 minute drive from Two Capes and the second of the capes we are named after and you arrive at one of the most majestic areas on the Oregon Coast.  Hike the Cape Lookout trail to the end of the cape for stunning views through the coastal forest.  Stop by the state park for picnic facilities, restrooms, and beach access to another amazing beach where you can walk for miles to the end of the spit that creates Netarts Bay.

We respectfully ask that guests do not drive to the ocean end of Floyd Avenue or unload vehicles there out of consideration for our neighbors. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.  If you would like our staff to ferry you to the end of the property please feel free to ask.

What Should I Bring with Me?

Here are a few recommendations to help ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, depending on the weather and season:

  • Beach Essentials: Beach chairs, towels, and any accessories you love for a day by the ocean.

  • Footwear: Beach shoes, sturdy walking shoes, hiking boots, and rain boots—always a good idea for navigating wet conditions.

  • Protection from the Elements: The coast can often be sunny especially near Two Capes Lookout although the weather can change quickly so we recommend bringing both sunscreen and a reliable sweatshirt.  During the fall, winter, and spring we recommend rain jackets and umbrellas.

  • Lighting: A flashlight for evening adventures or navigating the property at night.

  • Binoculars: If you would like to see up close the stunning coastal views and wildlife we recommend bringing your binoculars.  Eagles, herons, pelicans, and many other bird species are common in the area.

What are the roads like at Two Capes Lookout?

The roads throughout the property are gravel, maintaining a natural and rustic feel to complement the surrounding landscape.

Should I be concerned about road conditions during my visit? While the gravel roads are well-maintained, they can get a bit muddy during wet weather. We recommend bringing appropriate footwear, such as sturdy walking shoes or rain boots, to navigate comfortably.

What about footwear inside accommodations? For maximum comfort, we suggest bringing a pair of cozy slippers to use inside your cabin or dome after enjoying the outdoors.

Are children welcome at Two Capes Lookout?
Absolutely! We welcome families looking to enjoy a memorable coastal getaway.

Which accommodations are best suited for families?
Some of our domes can accommodate up to 4 people, making them a great option for families.

What about the mirror cabins?
The mirror cabins are designed for up to 2 adults, providing an intimate and cozy retreat.

Important Safety Note:

Due to the steep hills on our property that provide the amazing ocean views, we kindly ask that children be supervised at all times to ensure their safety. Thank you for your attention to this important consideration.

Is smoking allowed at Two Capes Lookout? No, we are a completely non-smoking facility. This includes all indoor and outdoor areas across the property.

Why is smoking prohibited? Our non-smoking policy is in place to maintain a clean, healthy environment and to protect the natural beauty of the property.

What is a DOME?

A dome, inspired by the geodesic design pioneered by architect Buckminster Fuller, is a spherical or partially spherical structure made of interconnected triangular panels. At Two Capes Lookout, our domes are crafted with durable, weather-resistant materials designed to blend harmoniously with the natural environment while offering guests a cozy and unique living experience.

The geodesic shape not only provides remarkable structural strength but also creates an open, airy interior with panoramic views. The domes are insulated and equipped with thoughtful amenities, including a fireplace heater, luxury bedding, and outdoor seating areas, ensuring a comfortable stay year-round. They offer a modern yet immersive way to experience the beauty of the Oregon Coast.  The Domes have electric and running water inside.

What are the bathhouses like for the Domes?

The bathhouses at Two Capes Lookout are thoughtfully designed to provide a luxurious and comfortable experience for guests staying in the domes. Located just steps away from your accommodation, they feature modern amenities and are stocked with Oregon-made bath products by Dani. They are completely private bathrooms and shower rooms with ample room to refresh after a day of exploring the stunning coastal landscape. The combination of rustic charm and modern convenience makes the bathhouses an essential part of the Two Capes Lookout experience.

What is a mirror cabin?

Perched at Two Capes Lookout, our mirror cabins offer a striking blend of modern design and natural immersion. Inspired by the innovative architecture of ÖÖD, these minimalist retreats feature reflective glass walls that dissolve into the rugged coastal landscape, creating a seamless connection to nature while ensuring complete privacy.

By day, the mirrored exterior captures the shifting light, reflecting the rolling waves, windswept cliffs, and ever-changing sky. Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows invite panoramic ocean views, while heated floors keep the space warm and inviting. Relax with a morning coffee at the cozy seating area or step outside to breathe in the crisp sea air.

As night falls, the cabin transforms into an intimate hideaway. The mirrored glass, now softly illuminated from within, offers a front-row seat to breathtaking sunsets and a sky filled with stars. While the reflective exterior ensures privacy during the day, at night, the interior becomes visible from the outside. For comfort and discretion, we’ve installed blackout shades that can be drawn for complete seclusion. Bathrooms are equipped with protective privacy film, ensuring an uninterrupted sense of tranquility.

Unwind in the plush queen bed dressed in luxury linens, or enjoy a nightcap at the sleek wet bar. The en-suite bathroom provides spa-like comfort, making each stay restful and rejuvenating. Designed for those who crave both serenity and sophistication, our mirror cabins offer an unforgettable experience—one where nature and architecture exist in perfect harmony.

Do birds fly into the glass and hurt themselves?

Not at Two Capes!  It is true that birds often can't recognize windows or mirrors and therefore might hurt themselves. To prevent that from happening, we use UV film stickers on all of our ÖÖD houses. These stickers reflect ultraviolet light, which birds can see but humans can’t. When light reflects, birds understand that there is an object on their way and they'll change direction. Our goal has always been to blend into nature and treat the environment and wildlife with care.

The Story Behind Two Capes Lookout Name:

Nestled between two iconic Oregon coast landmarks, Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda, Two Capes Lookout draws inspiration from its stunning surroundings. We envisioned our name as a reflection of this unique location—a "lookout" point between the capes, inviting exploration and awe.

Our thoughtfully designed logo captures this spirit perfectly. The binoculars symbolize discovery, with each lens offering a view of a different cape. The strap forms a gentle wave, representing the coastal beauty that shapes every experience here.

The name Two Capes Lookout celebrates the natural wonders that define our location, inviting every guest to connect with the landscape and the magic of the Oregon coast.
